Senator Edward J. Kasemeyer

Democrat, District 12, Baltimore and Howard Counties

A small business owner, Senator Edward Kasemeyer began his political career in the House of Delegates in 1983, at the urging of friends and colleagues who recognized his commitment to fiscally responsible thinking in Annapolis. He was elected to the Senate in 1987, and in his nearly 30 years in that office, Kasemeyer has been a strong proponent of legislation aimed at keeping Maryland open for business.

Since 2011, Senator Kasemeyer has chaired the very important Senate Budget & Taxation Committee, and has proven extremely helpful on budget issues impacting the construction industry. Among his varied and numerous committee posts, Kasemeyer also serves on other key business and commerce committees, including the Spending Affordability Committee and the Maryland Economic Development and Business Climate Commission.

A Baltimore native, Kasemeyer serves on several boards and organizations aimed at bettering health and public education in the city and county. He’s won several awards for his dedication to these issues.
