As the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act begins its roll out, we’d like to introduce you to a member of ABC Chesapeake Shores who has been working in that construction space for the last 18 years.
Utility contractors are the unsung heroes of construction. Much of their work is hidden underground, such as gas, cable, and fiber optic lines. But, as we all know, that work is essential to our daily lives.
Day and Sons Inc., headquartered in Curtis Bay, Maryland, has been working as an underground utility construction firm in the tri-state area since 2004. As a minority-owned business, Day and Sons became a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) in Maryland that same year, and in Virginia and Delaware in 2005.
Focused on expansion
Day and Sons Inc. completed its first underground project for the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) installing underground communication and electrical conduit by trenching and directional bore. The scope of the work included installing handholes, manholes, electrical & fiber optic cable.
From that initial success with MDTA, the company focused on expansion. “We did so with dedication, hard work and customer satisfaction,” says Kevin Day, the company’s founder and president. “Now our company successfully services the following companies BGE, Washington Gas, SHA, MDTA, Pepco, Delmarva Power, and First Energy.” It’s a public sector leader in directional drilling, utility construction, natural gas pipeline, fiber optic installation, and underground powerline construction.
“We believe that operating with the utmost of integrity on each project, allow us to create a partnership with our customers resulting in the successful safe, quality completion of the projects, while building a continuous relationship built on trust and respect,” says Day.
Focused on the workforce
As the company continues to grow and expand, the firm also remains committed to its workforce, says Day. Throughout the year, the company offers its employees various opportunities to increase their skill set and stay up to date on industry trends. “It allows them to increase their own worth, while also adding to the company’s overall value,” says Day.
Day and Sons also gives back to the community it serves, by supporting local food banks and other charities through donations and service projects.
“Our company’s success is made by the people that work alongside me. We are a team and a family,” says Day. “I am ever so humble to have an outstanding team that shares our company’s core values of integrity, safety and quality. Along with seeing the company’s growth and success, it has really touched my heart to see how our team members are prospering in their careers and improving their family’s quality of life.”
