For more than a decade, Kathy Szeliga has been on the side of helping Maryland’s economy grow. As a member of the COVID-19 Response Legislative Work Group, Del. Szeliga helped explore common sense legislation aimed at steering us through the pandemic.
She brings that same commonsense approach discussing recreational cannabis use and workplace safety. As part of the Marijuana Legalization Work Group (2019), Del. Szeliga has studied the issue of legalizing recreational cannabis. She understands the potential impact that recreational cannabis use can have on business and industries, such as construction, where safety is paramount.
“With the likely legalization of recreational cannabis, Maryland lawmakers need to be mindful of the ripple effects that such legalization will have in Maryland. Industries with inherently dangerous jobs, such as construction, will need to have legally granted safeguards afforded to them that will promote and ensure worker safety on job sites and in the communities where these jobs are located,” says Del. Szeliga.
A member of the House of Delegates since Jan. 12, 2011, Rep. Szeliga also currently serves on the Health and Government Operations Committee and the Rules and Executive Nominations Committee. She’s also a member of the Commission on Aging.
