PATRIOT Brings Veteran Values to Construction

Construction has always been a great fit for veterans to transition the skills they learned serving our country into a career path outside of the military. That’s how PATRIOT, an engineering, construction and service company headquartered in Dunkirk, Maryland, began.

PATRIOT was founded in 2009 by military veterans, John Gilmore and Matt Timbario, as a Small Disadvantaged Business and Service- Disabled Veteran-Owned construction company known as Patriot Construction, LLC.  Now, more than a decade later, PATRIOT has completed over 800 projects in more than 35 states totaling more than $250 million in revenue. Gilmore and Timbario, still play an active role in the operations and management of PATRIOT.

PATRIOT delivers full-service facilities and infrastructure solutions providing complete end-to-end life-cycle services, including planning, architecture, design-engineering, construction, and operations and maintenance. It works in seven primary markets: defense, healthcare, government, infrastructure, commercial, science and technology, and energy and power.

One recent project seemed tailor-made for PATRIOT: construction of the Living Legacy Pavilion and Fallen Soldier Statue at Living Legacy Forest, Aberdeen Proving Ground. Other recent projects include an $800M design-build healthcare construction and renovation contract for the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda and construction at the 2,600-acre waterfront Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater.

Whether an employee is a veteran or a civilian, PATRIOT remains committed to their workforce.

“PATRIOT prides itself on promoting from within and has recently made several internal advancements.  We also provide opportunities for continuing education and training, along with a host of benefits including healthcare, a company-sponsored 401K, a profit sharing plan, and employee discount programs,” says Trixi Spiers, Public Relations Director.

Community involvement is also a cornerstone of PATRIOT’s values. For the company’s numerous contributions to Calvert Family Advocates, PATRIOT was named the 2019 Community Partner of the Year by the Maryland Association of Social Services Board.  To date, PATRIOT has donated in excess of $300,000 to enhance the quality of life for many residents of the local community, including donating vehicles, shelter, home repairs/renovations, clothing, and dental care, as well as sponsoring children to attend extracurricular camps and programs.

The company was also the recipient of the 2019 Comptroller’s Cornerstone Award for Local Business Excellence which celebrates local businesses that have become a part of the fabric of their community, have adapted to challenges and continue to evolve with the marketplace, and maintain a commitment to giving back to the community. One business within each Maryland county is selected to receive the award.
