Calvert Masonry Builds Pride in Ownership

Companies often talk about pride in ownership. Calvert Masonry doesn’t just talk about it. They live it.

For more than 30 years, the Manassas, Virginia-based masonry contractor has been 100% employee-owned and operated. With every employee invested in the company through stock ownership, project outcomes and client satisfaction become personal as well as professional end goals.

“All our employees strive to make each project a success for our clients and the company. Because of our pride in ownership, the company has been successful at producing award-winning projects year after year, and is proud to be a part of many projects that make up the landscape of the Washington, DC metro area,” says Bruce Spengler, president of Calvert Masonry.

Calvert Masonry offers expertise in masonry, pre-cast, and terra cotta products as well as rain screen systems, air barrier and moisture control for applications used in multi-family residential, mixed-use, hospitals, universities and various types of commercial projects for both public and private clients. Recent projects include work at the District Wharf, Adams Morgan Historic Hotel, Park Chelsea, Museum of the Bible, The Spy Museum, Pike and Rose, among other prominent projects in the Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia.

Calvert takes a team approach on every project. Many of its experienced professionals have been part of the company for more than 20 years, bringing continuity to their clients. The teams manage each project from pre-construction to final closeout with safety and team building being at the forefront of every project.  Calvert recognizes the valuable part each employee plays in a successful project and strives to offer advancement from within for team members, through apprenticeships, mentoring, continued education and specialized training.

The Calvert team is committed to the industry and to the communities where they live and work.  Employees serve on committees at both ABC Metro Washington and Virginia chapters.  Calvert’s president serves on the ABC Metro Washington Board of Directors, as well as the Washington Building Congress Board of Governors.  Calvert employees have given back to the community through various local charities, including ABC food drives and through volunteering with Rebuilding Together, a non-profit which provides critical repairs and renovations for low-income homeowners.

At Calvert Masonry pride in ownership is a way of life.
