Rockville-based Lend Lease Construction took outdated Bel Pre Elementary School and brought it into the 21st century. With the exception of the school’s gymnasium, the old building was demolished to make room for this expanded 98,200 square foot, two-story learning environment. The new Bel Pre Elementary School was built using a two-story steel frame with a curtain wall, brick, and metal panel façade.
The project targeted LEED Gold certification and features geothermal heating and ventilation (HVAC) systems; a vegetative roof; lighting controls; sun shades; low VOC adhesives, sealants, paints, coatings, and carpets; low flow toilets; and bioretention ponds.
