MacKenzie Contracting Renovates Old AAI Company Building

When Greenfield Partners became the new building owners of what was formerly the AAI Company building in Hunt Valley, Maryland, they contacted Hunt Valley-based MacKenzie Contracting Company, LLC, to breathe new life into an aged, dark office building. The first and most noticeable dilemma was the lack of natural light into the building.

After numerous consultations and structural reviews a decision was made to saw cut the exterior of the building and install new energy efficient windows to bring in much needed natural light. Greenfield realized early on this was the first step into transforming the building into a more usable and effective office space. Special proto-type concrete cutting saws from Switzerland were utilized by the concrete cutting contractor.

As the general contractor, MacKenzie oversaw and coordinated the installation of window replacements throughout the building, upgraded the elevator, and provided Greenleaf with a stunning 21st century lobby.  The architect, Gaudreau, Inc., was brought on board to turn an aging dinosaur into a modern unique entry.  In keeping with the glass theme, the entry was enlarged and transformed with the construction of a glass canopy and new glass fronts with a vestibule at the lobby.  Colored glass panels were also used inside, in addition to upgraded lighting to complete the interior transformation. New exterior lighting and landscaping further enhanced the project.
